Origins & Background
Gary Van Dyck is a British DJ, producer, and record-label founder based in London. He operates primarily under the artist names DJ Future and Future, with Gary Future serving as the social-media-facing version. A dedicated figure in the underground UK jungle and drum & bass scene, his career spans from the early 2000s through to the present day.
Aliases & Identity
Gary works under several names. DJ Future is his main DJ and production alias; Future is the shortened version that appears on certain Skeleton Recordings and Danger Chamber Digital releases; Gary Future is the social-media-facing persona. On Discogs and Rate Your Music, "Gary Van Dyck" and "DJ Future (3)" are linked aliases โ every track listing his real name as writer and producer.
Sound & Style
His output sits at the intersection of jungle, hardcore, and dark drum & bass โ heavy, atmospheric, and rooted in the classic rave tradition. He has described his sound as music for "the serious minded people": dark textures, rolling breaks, and deep basslines, carrying 1990s UK rave culture forward into the modern era.
Career
His earliest traceable release dates to 2001 โ "2000:2000 / Neo" on Composite Records, a double A-side collaboration with EBK and Citizen (2). That single firmly placed him in the UK jungle/DnB underground at the turn of the millennium. From there his catalogue has grown across labels including Danger Chamber Digital, 117 Recordings, Skeleton Recordings, AKO Beatz, Bustle Beats, Mute:8 Recordings, Logical Direction Recordings, Underground Lair Recordings, and Blacka Yard Recording.
Radio & DJing
Gary is a long-running fixture on Jungletrain.net, where he hosts the Danger Chamber show โ a programme he has been involved with for many years. MixesDB documents joint sets with Y2 (notably November 2019) and a 2021 promo. As recently as March 2026 he was performing dedicated DJ-Future 4DA dubplate shows on Jungletrain.net, alongside appearances on Sub FM and the wider Underground Lair events ecosystem.
4D Audio
In September 2024, Gary launched 4D Audio โ his own label โ announcing it on his Gary Future Facebook page. The label's philosophy centres on limited physical vinyl: initial pressings of just 30 copies of clear vinyl per release, alongside digital. 4D Audio 002 followed shortly after, generating excitement in the underground and earning shout-outs from artists including DJ Darren Fox. By early 2026 the DJ-Future 4DA dubplate shows had become a regular Jungletrain feature.
Collaborators & Community
Gary's circle and split-release partners include Eric Electric (production collaborator), Tactical Aspect, D-Fect, Y2 (Vaughn Blackman), Dave Hoax, 88 Katanas, Rozzer, Verb (6) and Fox. He's deeply embedded in both the Underground Lair community and the Danger Chamber sub-scene โ both dedicated spaces for serious underground jungle and dark DnB.
Legacy & Context
Active since at least 2001, Gary Van Dyck โ DJ Future to the wider world โ has built a consistent body of work across many of the most respected underground UK DnB imprints. The 2024 launch of 4D Audio marks a new chapter: a platform to release limited, collector-focused vinyl on his own terms while continuing to DJ and collaborate at the heart of the scene.
