Flames After Dark is committed to making this website accessible to as wide an audience as possible, regardless of ability or technology. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
Conformance Target
This website targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities.
We are continually working to improve the accessibility of this site and welcome any feedback on how we can do better.
Accessibility Features
The following accessibility features have been implemented across this site:
- Keyboard navigation — all interactive elements, including links, buttons, and form controls, can be accessed and operated using a keyboard alone
- Screen reader support — the site uses semantic HTML elements (headings, landmarks, lists, and ARIA attributes where appropriate) to ensure compatibility with assistive technologies
- Reduced motion support — animations and transitions are reduced or disabled for users who have enabled the "prefers-reduced-motion" setting in their operating system or browser
- Semantic HTML — the site is built with meaningful, well-structured HTML to convey content hierarchy and purpose to all users and assistive technologies
- Alt text on images — all meaningful images include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are marked appropriately so screen readers can skip them
- Skip links — a "skip to content" link is provided to allow keyboard users to bypass repetitive navigation and jump directly to the main content
- Focus indicators — visible focus outlines are provided on all interactive elements so keyboard users can clearly see which element is currently selected
- Colour contrast — text and interactive elements meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratios to ensure readability against the dark background
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, the following limitations are currently known:
- Video content — some video content embedded on the site may not yet have closed captions or audio descriptions. We are working to add captions to all video content over time
- Emoji used as icons — in some places, emoji characters are used as decorative icons. While these are generally announced by screen readers, the descriptions may not always convey the intended visual meaning
We are actively working to address these limitations and improve accessibility across the site.
